In Zerbst, Saxony-Anhalt, the transition to renewable energy has reached a new milestone on historical ground. As part of the ongoing expansion of the "Energy Park Zerbst", a former military airbase transformed since 2011 into a multi-technology clean energy hub, GETEC has commissioned the new Zerbst 6 photovoltaic park. Built with high-efficiency Trinasolar Vertex N modules, the 30 MW utility-scale project marks the latest chapter in repurposing legacy infrastructure for massive grid feed-in capability.
The expansive facility comprises nearly 50,000 solar modules, seamlessly integrating into a site that already hosts active wind farms and a biomethane plant. The new solar installation generates enough clean electricity to power approximately 9,000 households while offsetting roughly 21,000 tonnes of CO? annually, making a substantial contribution to Germany's regional decarbonisation goals.
A defining feature of the Zerbst 6 project is its deep community integration. Alongside the official opening, GETEC and Zerbst Mayor Andreas Dittmann signed a municipal participation agreement, establishing a framework where the municipality directly benefits financially from the volume of electricity generated. This collaborative approach ensures that the expansion of utility solar infrastructure delivers long-term, tangible economic value directly back to the local community.
